Who cares about SEO when you can advertise your business wherever you want. Google Ads, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Tweeter, Tik Tok etc.
There is no reason to work from dawn to dusk for months, researching keywords, improving your website, studying your competitors, finding out where the gap is, and after all that and much more, to try your luck and promote your business organically, i.e. by ranking for the keywords you want on the first pages of Google.
I don’t want to bore you with whether SEO is worthwhile or not in 2024. The answer is that SEO is more worthwhile than ever.
What is SEO in digital marketing?
A few days ago we had a big meeting for an upcoming collaboration with a large pharmaceutical company and taking over their Google ads. Their problem was that they were paying thousands of euros every month for advertising and not even making half of that through their online sales.
To be precise, without the sales on their premises and their network of medical visitors, the company would have gone bankrupt. To create our offer, we first carried out an SEO audit of their site, as we do every time so that we knew exactly what we were dealing with.
Believe it or not, their site had no SEO track, not even the basics, which are nothing more than some keywords that are placed on each page so that the search engines recognize what that page represents and display it to the user when they search for those keywords.
Some of you may be wondering what you have to do with SEO? After all, they want to hire you to take over their Google ads!
And yet we had to reject it, because quite simply, no kind of digital marketing can be done without proper SEO first. Does that mean we didn’t get the job? Of course we got it, and with a lot more money, just not for Google Ads, but to do SEO.
How can SEO help your business?
Size doesn’t matter, but if you ask me, smaller companies have many more advantages with costs they can afford, but also the unique ability to directly beat their biggest competitors.
By improving the search engine ranking of your website, SEO can attract more potential customers, improve the user experience and provide your business with a significant return on investment.
Boost Brand Awareness
It doesn’t matter if you have the lowest market prices or offer the best quality products and services. No one will find out if they don’t know your brand, and that’s where the problem lies.
- In the real world, potential customers would walk through the market, see your store and most likely take a look inside.
- In the digital world, while you have the same opportunity to achieve something similar through ads, it all has to do with keywords, i.e. the tip of the iceberg, search engine optimization.
It’s simple, the other person doesn’t know your business but is looking for something related to it. With the right SEO, we can connect the brand with the right niche and the right keywords.
A purely organic view, i.e. whether your site appears higher in the search engines is the most powerful factor in getting as many views as possible, driving the customer to your email store and thus increasing your reputation and sales.
In any case, the credibility of any brand is directly linked to how high it ranks on Google and other search engines. We all trust the top results and are more likely to visit these top pages than those that are only on the second page.
In other words, SEO is the best way to grow your brand with as little or no advertising as possible.
Increases your website traffic
As I have already explained, the higher your ranking, the more visitors you will have. Competition is fierce and everyone is fighting to the last breath to be in the top three on Google.
Just consider the following: The first three places dominate, occupying 75% of all clicks while 32% are distributed to the rest up to the second page.
But what criteria does Google use to select the top search results and who appears on the first two pages?
Keywords are definitely very important, but only one of more than two hundred different ranking factors. Unfortunately, without a well-organised SEO strategy, you have little chance of getting onto the first two Google pages.
Increase conversions
When done right, most of the traffic a website receives is due to SEO. And organic traffic allows you to truly understand the visitor’s journey.
Start with the keyword he used to find you and whether the page he was eventually led to was what he expected, but also what happens to your other pages that are related to it.
Of course, this is just the beginning, but it’s the first thing an SEO expert will consider to increase conversion, whatever that means for you, whether you want customers
- to make a purchase
- subscribe to your newsletters
- buy a subscription to one of your services
- or share your content on social media
The more traffic you have, the more likely you are to convert traffic into sales. And of course, higher traffic provides room for experimentation, which leads to faster results and more certain conclusions.
Increase ROI (Return of Investment)
If we look at it as a whole, the investment starts from the construction of a website. Its design and functionality also determine its effectiveness.
The most common mistake is that few choose to incorporate SEO into the creation process from day one. Too often we see well-made websites fail miserably because they have no traffic. So even if you have chosen a good company and the result is good, your investment doesn’t pay off.
What you may not know is that good search engine optimization drastically reduces PPC (Pay-Per-Click) costs in Google Ads while increasing PPC costs for your competitors.
Now you understand why we refused to take over the pharmaceutical company’s Google ads. We are very committed to high quality and profitable Google ads and are always proud of the results of our previous work.
We do not want the people who trust us to waste their money on ads that will not work. And they will not work or perform to their full potential if there is not a solid SEO foundation for the website.
Why is SEO best for the long run?
To be fair, SEO results are not visible overnight. Especially if the website is new, it will take at least six months for the difference to become visible.
An ad is an ad, and you will disappear from the face of the earth as soon as you decide to stop it. SEO is a long-term digital marketing strategy that takes time, but the results it offers are more substantial and are sustained over a much longer period of time.
Of course, competition in the market is fierce and you need to remain patient and calm. On the other hand, search engines are constantly evolving, with our attention always mainly focused on Google for obvious reasons.
The algorithms they use to improve the user experience are constantly getting “smarter” and stricter, while major updates are made at least twice a year, which take professionals a lot of time to decipher using their valuable experience and intuition and the appropriate SEO tools such as SEMrush and ahrefs.
Even if everything went well in the first year and you are on the first page for some of the keywords that are important to you and get you conversions, that does not mean you will stay there forever. Unfortunately, SEO is as dynamic and evolving as the search engines and the competition.
It’s no coincidence that reputable companies invest a lot of money hiring top SEO firms and professionals, while there are many who choose to do SEO completely in-house by adding the right people to their staff.
This is why SEO is important in 2024
It is not enough to create a website, while unnecessary ads bring only fleeting results and profits and are certainly not enough to make a business viable.
The secret lies in organic traffic and your ability to convert it into conversions, and that is exactly what SEO was, is and will be.
SEO remains critical in 2024 due to the ever-increasing digital landscape and the continuous evolution of search engine algorithms. As more businesses go online, competition for visibility in search results intensifies, making effective SEO essential for standing out.
Don’t forget that SEO is affordable and fully customizable depending on the goals and budget of your business while acting as a springboard and safety cushion for the strategy to be followed in SEM.
